End summer safely

Labor Day is a great time for cookouts and spending time outdoors. Make sure you celebrate safely as you fire up the grill. Don’t forget the following safety tips as you get ready for your holiday weekend:

  • Before your festivities, check to see that the smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors at your home are working. Take a moment to pop in a fresh set of batteries if you can’t remember the last time you changed them.
  • Don’t barbecue inside your home or garage. Propane and charcoal grills are for outdoor use only. Cook in a well-ventilated area outside to help protect yourself and everyone else from CO exposure.
  • Lower your chances of a grease fire by cleaning your grill before firing it up to cook. Do not leave your grill unattended. Also, keep a fire extinguisher nearby at all times in case of a fire emergency.
  • Position your grill at least 10 feet away from your home. If you use a grill too close to your home, it could cause a fire or damage the home’s vinyl and aluminum siding. It’s also important to place the grill on flat ground and ensure that the wheels are locked in place while in use.

Arming your Blue system

Blue by ADT provides a variety of options for arming and disarming your system. There are 3 different arming modes to meet your needs and one disarm mode:

  • ARM-STAY: Use this mode for securing your house while you’re at home. ARM-STAY will provide you with an Exit Delay and an Entry Delay and is designed to ignore motion sensors, and other specific sensors not set for Stay mode. During the Exit Delay, the beep will get faster during the last 10 seconds of arming.
  • ARM-AWAY: Use ARM-AWAY when no one is at home. Your system will provide an Exit Delay and an Entry Delay. During the Exit Delay, the beep will increase during the last 10 seconds of arming.
  • INSTANT ARMING: Use this mode when you’re in for the night and you don’t expect anyone to enter or exit your home. Your system won’t provide an Exit Delay or Entry Delay. This mode will also ignore specific sensors not set for Stay mode (for example motion sensors as typically only used in Away mode).
  • DISARM: Use this whenever you want to cancel any alarm you caused.

NOTE: The Exit and Entry delays are designed to give you enough time to leave or enter your home without setting off a false alarm.

Tip: Make sure all windows and doors are closed before arming your system. If a sensor is open when you’re trying to arm the system, you may be prompted to bypass the sensor. You can either close the door or window and try to arm again, or you can bypass the sensor and it won’t be monitored until the next time the system is armed.

You can arm and disarm your system using various devices. The following instructions explain how to arm and disarm your system using each one.

Fresh ways to use door and window sensors

You can help increase your home’s safety and security by adding extra Blue by ADT Door & Window Sensors to your system. Even if you’ve already set up sensors on all your doors and windows, it’s not too late to add a sensor whenever you see an opportunity.

Use door and window sensors to give yourself peace of mind while at home or on the go. Stay updated by getting an alert on your smartphone whenever a sensor is opened.

In addition to helping you secure your home’s access points, here are some different ways you can use your sensors that you may not have thought of before:

  • Keep the kiddos out of the liquor cabinet and other off-limits areas in your home.
  • Track your furbaby’s movements by placing your sensors by your home’s pet doors.
  • Get alerts when your file cabinets and doors to where you keep valuables are opened.
  • Set up a sensor on a cookie jar to get smartphone alerts that help you track your midnight snacking.
